THE STORYTELLHER | Maya Hirsch | מיה הירש

Here’s my story,

I was well into my late 30s, with three girls, 13 years of marriage, 4 years into our adventure overseas, and less than a year until we were supposed to go back home when I realized that I still didn’t know what I wanted to be when I grew up!

Wait, say that again? How old was I exactly? I was 38 years old, and I still had no idea what I wanted to become. How much older could I be to make that decision?

Apparently, there is no time limit for this decision (and, yes, I have a story about that as well).

You can call it self exploration, or reinventing myself, but the truth is that it was a straightforward crisis. My midlife crisis. I knew that I had about 7 months until our return date, and then it was only a year before the big 4-0. The girls were a little older and didn’t need me around as much; my guy was about to finally finish his training and become a full-time attending physician. That’s it; I’d run out of excuses. So, how did I still not know what I wanted to do with my life?

I started this blog a little after turning 40. What a year that was! I poured my blood, sweat, and tears (so many tears) into this year. But I insisted on finding my true self, facing my demons, understanding my needs, investing in me, and making my dreams come true. It turned out that one of my biggest dreams was to tell my stories…

So, I’m inviting you—the tired mom who is trying to connect with herself, whether you’re going through your midlife crisis or not, the woman who is changing careers, who is putting herself on the top of her priority list, who works, runs errands, drives her kids, shops, does the laundry, the one who is changing, evolving, surviving, and flourishing in her life—to come read my stories.

Who knows, you might find yourself in one. You’re welcome to cry and laugh a little (or a lot), but mostly I’d just like you to enjoy reading.

So, get yourself a cup of coffee. Better yet, some hot cocoa! We all know you deserve it! Sit back and relax, and come read my blog. I have a lot to share with you.

Maya.
